FakeUpdateGenerator.com is a free, browser-based tool that lets anyone simulate realistic fake operating system update screens — instantly, with no account, no app, and no installation required.
The idea is simple: sometimes you want to leave a convincing prank running on a friend's or colleague's computer, or you need a realistic-looking update screen as a prop for a photo, video, or stream. Every existing option either required software installation, looked unconvincing, or was buried behind a paywall. So we built something better.
Six highly accurate simulations: Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS Software Update, Mac Recovery Mode, BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), and a Linux Terminal session. Each simulation is designed to be visually indistinguishable from the real OS event at a glance. They run in fullscreen automatically, hiding all browser UI elements.
Our users range from office workers looking for a harmless laugh, to YouTubers and streamers who need a convincing transition screen, to photographers staging a tech shoot, to IT professionals demonstrating what a BSOD looks like to non-technical colleagues. The tool has also been used as a teaching aid to show students what real system update screens look like across different operating systems.
FakeUpdateGenerator.com runs entirely in the browser. It does not install anything, does not modify any system files, and collects no personal data. The only data we receive is anonymous, aggregated analytics (Google Analytics) to understand how the site is used. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
